Adding a New Case Petition

Add Child

Menu | Person | Name Search

  • Search for child’s last name, click SUBMIT button
  • If found, click the child’s name
  • If not found, click ADD A NEW NAME button
  • Verify or Add child name, race, birth sex, dob, ethnicity, SSN. (Add what you know)
  • Click UPDATE button to save changes

Add Relatives

On Relatives line Click ADD link on right

  • Click Get relative name button
    • Do name search on relative you are adding (mother/father/grandparent/sibling)
    • If found, click on their name.
    • If not found, click ADD A NEW NAME
    • Add or verify name, race, birth sex, dob, ethnicity, SSN (Add what you know)
    • Click UPDATE to save person
    • Click CANCEL to return to Relative Detail screen.
  • On the Relative Detail screen:
    • select relative type (mother/father/etc.)
    • Lives with = yes or no
    • Custody Status = choose custody status (leave empty if you don’t know)
    • Click UPDATE to save the relative.

Repeat steps for every relative, including siblings.

You can add addresses and phone/email addresses for relatives on this Person Detail screen by clicking the ADD in the appropriate column.

You can copy relatives between siblings by clicking the GET FROM ANOTHER link. Select the child to copy.

Add Case

On Case line, Click ADD link on the right.

  • Case type = select the appropriate case type
  • Referring agency = law enforcement, attorney, pro se, etc.
  • Start date = T or the date of the file stamp on petition.
  • Click UPDATE to save changes

Add Scanned Document

File stamp petition, write docket number on it, scan the petition, and save it on your computer.

Scroll to bottom right to the Documents line – Click Add document link on right.

  • List templates containing: type the word petition, then press TAB on the keyboard
  • Using the dropdown, Select the appropriate document.
    • Scanned PETITION –
  • Click UPDATE

When adding a document:

  • There are questions at the top of the screen for you to answer.
  • There are buttons to move you through the document:
    • Update to save and move forward
    • Backward to move backward through the questions
    • Cancel to get out of the document (Edit Text to get back in)
    • Finish when the document is completed.
  • There are select (SEL) boxes before the words to select that option.

Answer all questions

  • On the screen that says “Select Document to import”
    • Click CHOOSE FILE button. Find scanned document, click it.
    • Click UPDATE
  • On the screen that says “There are no more questions…” Click the FINISH button.
    • This will open a new window tab to the right of Quest.
      • It is a preview window to verify it is the correct document.
      • Close the preview window by clicking the X on that window tab.
    • Click the CANCEL button, take you to Document Detail screen.
  • Cancel out of Document Detail screen to return to Case Detail screen.

Schedule Hearing

On the Last 20 Events line, click the ADD link on the right.

  • Event Date/time: Click the blue calendar to select date and time.
  • Type – type of hearing
  • Court – Judicial officer.
  • Estimated length – 1 = 1 case.
  • Case(s) – select everyone with that case number who should appear on docket.

Update to save changes.

Link Petition to Hearing

Click on the scanned petition

Click From Event dropdown and select the hearing where this petition will be heard.

This will display the petition on the docket for the judge to review.

Names Assigned

If there is an attorney filing, add them to the case.

  • Go to the Names currently assigned to the case, click the ADD link.
  • Click the Get Name button, do a name search on the attorney
  • If found, click their name.
  • If not found, click Add an Agency Person.
    • Add their first and last name
    • Employer Information
      • ID number: first 3 letters of first name first 3 letters of last name (KARTHO)
      • Person Type: Attorney
      • Agency: Attorney
    • UPDATE to save them as a person in system.
    • Add their Contact Information: Email and Office phone, UPDATE
    • Cancel to return to Case Assignment Detail screen.
  • Role = Attorney
  • Represents = click who they represent.
  • UPDATE to save your changes.

Subpoena/Summons

Add a document called Subpoena or Summons

  • Answer all questions,
  • Assess fees if appropriate.
  • click FINISH when completed.

Return of Service

When a Summons or Subpoena, or any document that gets returned, served or unserved, you can scan that into Quest so everyone is aware.

  • Add document called return of service.
  • Answer all questions.
  • FINISH when completed.

The return of service will be displayed on the Court docket.

Orders/Motions

Any order or motion received will need to be scanned and then added to the case.

Do a name search to find your person

Scroll down to the cases and click on appropriate the case number

In the Case Detail screen, scroll down to Documents

Click Add Document
